Abstract
A new type of shear induced instability in chemical systems was described. The instability was found to appear as the speed of the flow increased beyond a certain threshold. It was also found that such instability resulted in a steady pattern moving with the average fluid velocity. It was also shown that the pattern arises when the activator has a higher diffusivity that the inhibitor, which was contrary to Turing's instability.
