Abstract
In this paper, we provide a discussion of the most appealing morphosyn-tactic and semantic properties of causative constructions in Cashibo-Caca-taibo (Panoan, Peru), from a typological-functional perspective. We will see that this language presentes a causative morpheme general-mi, and several other morphological and lexical causatives strategies that, in some cases, compete with this suffx. Our paper provides a description of each of these strategies, with particular attention to those cases where more than one can be used to obtain the causative of a predicate. This will allow us to determine the principles associated with the manner in which the different strategies to describe the meanings are distributed covering the functional domain of causation. As we shall see, these principles are consistent with several postulates offered from functional linguistics.
