Abstract

This paper introduces BINBOT: a low-cost robot learning companion capable of teaching children basic concepts through binary questions. BINBOT has a reprogrammable database with questions on a certain topic- sorted by difficulty level- to be answered by children. The learning process is expected to occur through the interaction between children and the robot interface, a small screen and a remote control. Feedback is provided as movement, sound and light- attempting to represent the companion's happiness- depending on whether the answer to the question was correct or not. Results of a teaching session with 12 children aged between 10 and 12 years old are presented.
