Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases cause around 30% of global deaths, with atrial fibrillation (AF) being the most common chronic arrhythmia. Affecting over 33 million people worldwide, AF prevalence increases with age, particularly in those over 80. In Peru, the lack of early detection tools at the primary care level complicates AF management, especially in resource-limited areas. Despite its prevalence, AF often goes undiagnosed, increasing the risk of complications like stroke. This study introduces AuriCheck, a portable and affordable device designed for early AF detection in patients over 65 in Peru’s primary care system. AuriCheck uses three cardiac leads and a signal processing algorithm to detect key features like R peaks and P waves, validated against the MS400 simulator and the PhysioNet database. The device is compact, easy to use, and transmits data wirelessly for real-time monitoring. AuriCheck fills the gap in AF screening, offering a scalable solution for underserved areas, improving early diagnosis and preventing AF-related complications.
