Abstract
The purpose of this research was to analyze the incidence of work stress on the performance by competencies of university teachers, measured by the functions of teaching (pedagogic-didactic competencies, research, academic management, and university extension. A total of 400 teachers who work full time in the main public and private universities in Ecuador participated in the study. Data and relationships were analyzed using structural equation models based on covariances (CB-SEM) through the maximum likelihood method. The reported findings showed that work stress had a significant impact on performance dealing with pedagogical and academic management competencies, while statistically significant results were not reported for research and university extension competencies.
