Psychological empowerment and job stress in higher education institutions in Ecuador
    (Dove Medical Press Ltd, 2022-01-01)
Both psychological empowerment and job stress have been the subjects of great concern, studied mainly in developed countries. In emerging economies, few studies have contributed to the knowledge of the relationship between these two constructs. This study analyzed the relationship between the dimensions of psychological empowerment and job stress in tenured professors from public higher education institutions in Ecuador during 2019, providing insights for achieving better results regarding the productivity and well-being of teachers. This research seeks to bridge the knowledge gap concerning psychological empowerment and job stress within an academic context in an emerging economy. Methods: In this quantitative study, a confirmatory model was proposed. Correlation analysis was used to investigate whether psychological empowerment dimensions are related to job stress. Data were collected from a sample of 200 tenured professors working at public universities located in Zone 3 of Ecuador in 2019. The instrument applied for psychological empowerment was proposed by Spreitzer, composed of four dimensions—meaning, competence, impact, and autonomy. For job stress, the Occupational Stress Inventory-Revised (OSI-R) instrument applied was proposed and revised by Osipow. Results: Through structural equation modeling with partial least squares, it was possible to demonstrate that psychological empowerment reduces levels of job stress only when it is perceived that there is autonomy, fewer limitations, and more freedom. No evidence was identified that other components of psychological empowerment, such as meaning, competence, and impact, are related to job stress. Conclusion: The results indicated that the model used to explain the relationship between these variables had weak predictive power. Furthermore, only one research hypothesis is accepted. Finally, these findings are corroborated and explained by the different perspectives presented by various authors.

God on the guillotine: The paradigm shift effected by Kant in the philosophical conception of religion
    (Universidad Compultense Madrid, 2024-01-01)
Trying to emulate the ironic pen of Heinrich Heine, I use his legendary comparison between the figures of Kant and Robespierre to give title to my paper, in which I expose the decisive paradigm shift that Kant carries out in the philosophical tradition with respect to the conception of the problem of the existence of God. In a first moment, I refer to the reasons that lead Kant, in the Critique of Pure Reason, to dislodge the problem of the “existence” of God from the realm of theoretical reason. In a second moment, I address the displacement of this question to the realm of the Critique of Practical Reason, emphasizing how difficult and paradoxical such a thesis seems to be. Finally, by way of conclusion, I try to formulate a thesis of greater depth that serves as support, in Kant, to the two previous ones, namely, the primacy of philosophy over any other science or discipline, including theology, which can be illustrated in a special way with the case of the censorship of which he was a victim and which led him to the publication of The Conflict of the Faculties.

    Freedom in Babel
(Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Bajo Palabra Philosophical Association, 2024-01-01)
There are many reasons to associate the contemporary crisis with the metaphorical situation referred to by the name Babel, including its apocalyptic connotations. And there are equally valid reasons to inquire about the direction that the idea of freedom has been taking. However, regarding both Babel and freedom, there are multiple interpretations. The article proposes an initial hermeneutical framework on the complexity of facets of the Babel metaphor and a reformulation of the concept of freedom in that context, inspired by the three-dimensional vision originally suggested by Hegel.

The so-called “struggles for recognition” were the protagonists of various debates at the end of the last century and the beginning of this. However, although the concept of "recognition" has remained in authors such as Axel Honneth, the concept of "struggle", for various commentary voices, apparently would have lost relevance in its recent system after the Freedom’s right. In this research, we defend that, on the contrary, although there is a need to make the “struggle” explicit in its system, there is a Hegelian proposal for it, but which, now more than before, is a constitutive part of relations of recognition, which are the fragile fabric of society. Furthermore, after the publication of his latest work, Recognition, we postulate that the only way to understand recognition at this socio-ontological level is by explaining in its defini[1]tion the constituent dimension of social struggles. In this sense, contrary to general opinion, social struggles may be understood as the moral engine of socio-historical evolution and not as "failures" without social function

Una apreciación de la Ética de Spinoza en torno a la libertad como libertad humana
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2023-12-11)
This article seeks to highlight the relevance of Spinoza’s philosophy with respect to the realization of freedom. His idea of freedom does not deny or reject emotions, and links them to our ability to be rational beings. Spinoza is one of the first philosophers to appreciate an internal dimension of emotions and consider it as part of our own nature, since he affirmed that the human essence is desire itself. The human being is aware of this desire, which drives him to seek ways to affirm his own existence. His notion of freedom must, therefore, consider all these elements to be reflected as something achievable without neglecting what makes us human.
