El desarrollo esquivo. Intentos y logros parciales de transformaciones económicas y tecnológicas (1970-2000)
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Fondo Editorial, 2003)
Development is an ongoing social project. Moreover it is an urgent task in underdeveloped societies like ours where development seems an elusive goal. Therefore, it is essential to reflect on the concept of and approaches to development. This book gives us an economic approach to this issue for the Peruvian context. Here, development is defined as a process of liberation from restrictions. This approach seeks to recover the social and ethical dimensions of a dynamic that is based necessarily on economic performance. The findings are tough and could discourage some. However, despite the stark reality (that should be the basis for higher ambitions) that we all share, progress has been made that should be a reference for even higher aims. The message of the book as a whole is that development is extremely urgent and also possible.
