Item type:Publication, Reseña crítica. Francisco Cortés Rodas. (2020). Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, La filosofía del derecho de Hegel: ¿política, no metafísica?(Sociedade Hegel Brasileira, 2021-02-27)Perhaps unconsciously emulating the intention of John Rawls to turn liberalism into a purely political theory, without presuppositions or metaphysical pretensions, some contemporary authors propose to update the central approaches of Hegel's Philosophy of Right, but also to dispense it with its dependence on his Science of Logic. We will analyze whether this claim is possible, and for this we will focus especially on the methodological strategy used by Axel Honneth in his various works on the matter. Even recognizing the relative plausibility that such an undertaking can have, we will argue, however, not only that it is not possible to dispense with those metaphysical presuppositions, but that, well understood, they actually constitute the greatest richness of the most relevant ideas of the Philosophy of Right. We will make a differentiation between immediate, mediate and hermeneutical presuppositions, and this should show us the different levels of dependence between the two mentioned works of Hegel.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The trail of Gyges. Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Hegel’s subtle interpretation of the positivity of right(Universidad Compultense Madrid, 2024-01-01)The present article aims to show the versatility of Hegel’s conception of the “positivity” of right and, through it, his claim to achieve a philosophical mediation between the ethical and political conceptions confronting each other in modernity. It is very revealing that Hegel used this expression in a double sense: not only to question the pure normativity of modern theories of rational freedom, but also to criticize the stagnant forms of institutional realization of ethical ways of life throughout history. We will analyze this double aspect of Hegel’s conception of positivity, first, by taking as a reference his polemic with the Historical School of Law and, second, by evoking his questioning of modern theories of natural law. We believe that therein lies an enduring lesson about the need to seek forms of mediation between normativity and realism in political philosophy.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, God on the guillotine: The paradigm shift effected by Kant in the philosophical conception of religion(Universidad Compultense Madrid, 2024-01-01)Trying to emulate the ironic pen of Heinrich Heine, I use his legendary comparison between the figures of Kant and Robespierre to give title to my paper, in which I expose the decisive paradigm shift that Kant carries out in the philosophical tradition with respect to the conception of the problem of the existence of God. In a first moment, I refer to the reasons that lead Kant, in the Critique of Pure Reason, to dislodge the problem of the “existence” of God from the realm of theoretical reason. In a second moment, I address the displacement of this question to the realm of the Critique of Practical Reason, emphasizing how difficult and paradoxical such a thesis seems to be. Finally, by way of conclusion, I try to formulate a thesis of greater depth that serves as support, in Kant, to the two previous ones, namely, the primacy of philosophy over any other science or discipline, including theology, which can be illustrated in a special way with the case of the censorship of which he was a victim and which led him to the publication of The Conflict of the Faculties.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Freedom in Babel(Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Bajo Palabra Philosophical Association, 2024-01-01)There are many reasons to associate the contemporary crisis with the metaphorical situation referred to by the name Babel, including its apocalyptic connotations. And there are equally valid reasons to inquire about the direction that the idea of freedom has been taking. However, regarding both Babel and freedom, there are multiple interpretations. The article proposes an initial hermeneutical framework on the complexity of facets of the Babel metaphor and a reformulation of the concept of freedom in that context, inspired by the three-dimensional vision originally suggested by Hegel. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
