Item type:Publication, Una reconstrucción de la noción de ideología en La ideología alemana a partir de la filosofía de la historia(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2020-06-18)“A Reconstruction of the Notion of Ideology in German ideology on the Basis of the Philosophy of History”. The present paper offers, first, a characterization of the Marxian notion of ideology, implicitly and explicitly developed from a materialist conception of history in The German Ideology, all of the above from the perspective of the philosophy of history. To this aim, secondly, the projects of philosophy of history in Hegel and Marx are compared, taking as a criterion of contrast the characterization of substantive philosophies of history developed by authors such as Carl Hempel and Arthur Danto. The main conclusion reached with this analysis is, in third term, that Danto and Hempel’s criticism of the substantive philosophy of history does not affect the Marxian historical-philosophical approach (in contrast with what happens in Hegel), because Marx does not have as a subject of history the deployment of the Idea but the action of human individuals who act in the world to meet their needs, realize and develop their institutions.3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Philosophy of right without Science of Logic?: an ongoing debate on Hegel's social philosophy(Verifiche, 2022-01-01)The question posed in the title of this contribution alludes to the attempts of some contemporary authors, among them that of Axel Honneth, to update the central approaches of Hegel’s Philosophy of Right, but precisely and deliberately disregarding their supposed dependence on his Science of Logic. Answering that question is not easy for various reasons, methodological and hermeneutical. It is well known that Hegel emphatically maintains the dependence between both works and philosophical projects, but there is no consensus among the specialists about what real weight and of what type the Logic on the Philosophy of Right has. On the other hand, it is evident that any social philosophy requires a logical conception in the broad sense, be it Hegelian or otherwise, even more so if the intention is to update the Hegelian construction implicit in the concept of freedom. In any case, the discussion seems to show a paradoxical fact that consists in simultaneously affirming the actuality and obsolescence of the Hegelian conception of practical reason. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Interview with Miguel Giusti(Universidad Complutense Madrid, 2024-11-20)Miguel Giusti is a renowned specialist in German philosophy and a passionate promoter of academic events that lead to the analysis of the contemporary world. Item type:Publication, Hegel’s subtle interpretation of the positivity of right(Universidad Compultense Madrid, 2024-01-01)The present article aims to show the versatility of Hegel’s conception of the “positivity” of right and, through it, his claim to achieve a philosophical mediation between the ethical and political conceptions confronting each other in modernity. It is very revealing that Hegel used this expression in a double sense: not only to question the pure normativity of modern theories of rational freedom, but also to criticize the stagnant forms of institutional realization of ethical ways of life throughout history. We will analyze this double aspect of Hegel’s conception of positivity, first, by taking as a reference his polemic with the Historical School of Law and, second, by evoking his questioning of modern theories of natural law. We believe that therein lies an enduring lesson about the need to seek forms of mediation between normativity and realism in political philosophy.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Freedom in Babel(Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Bajo Palabra Philosophical Association, 2024-01-01)There are many reasons to associate the contemporary crisis with the metaphorical situation referred to by the name Babel, including its apocalyptic connotations. And there are equally valid reasons to inquire about the direction that the idea of freedom has been taking. However, regarding both Babel and freedom, there are multiple interpretations. The article proposes an initial hermeneutical framework on the complexity of facets of the Babel metaphor and a reformulation of the concept of freedom in that context, inspired by the three-dimensional vision originally suggested by Hegel. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Hegel and Husserl on Phenomenology, Logic, and the System of Sciences: A Reappraisal(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2023-12-01)Husserl envisages transcendental phenomenology as a radically founding science that lays bare the higher-order experiences whereby logic and a theory of science become constituted. On the other hand, according to a usual presentation of Hegel’s philosophy, phenomenology is “logic’s precondition,” and science presents itself as its “result.” This alleged precedence of Hegel’s phenomenology (with its experiential and historical horizons) regarding logic may be a motif behind the current affinities recently traced between Hegelian and Husserlian notions of phenomenology that highlight their views on experience, history, and the lifeworld. This paper offers instead a reconsideration of aspects of their philosophies mostly challenged or dismissed since the rise of positivism: a reappraisal of their views on the relationship between phenomenology, logic, and philosophy as an “absolute” system of sciences. The argument is made that the irreconcilable difference between their projects ultimately stands on the radical contrast between Hegel’s speculative-conceptual method and system of sciences and Husserl’s foundational science and method as experiential-phenomenological all the way through. Despite this methodological abyss, this paper vindicates their affinities in their refusal to segregate science from life, and their attempts to overcome modernity’s inherited fragmentation of culture by providing an all-unifying approach to philosophy.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Countering the Pathologies of Recognition Towards an Inferentialist-Expressivist Strategy for Social Critique(Associazione Pragma, 2025-01-01)This paper explores the ambivalence of recognition within contemporary critical theory, moving beyond Althusser's conception of recognition as a purely ideological mechanism. Building on Honneth's analysis, it argues that recognition both reinforces social reproduction and enables self-realization, often in ways that are difficult to disentangle. The first section of the paper examines the claim that recognition, like any social practice, is structured by a system of norms that govern the reciprocal attribution of practical and moral attitudes, along with the commitments they entail. In the second section, I argue that inferential practices offer a powerful methodological framework for analyzing recognition claims, as they reveal tacit forms of knowledge and challenge the presumed immediacy of prevailing social categories. The third section explores the role of social struggles in articulating and advancing recognition demands, emphasizing the value of an inferentialist-expressivist perspective rooted in Robert Brandom's philosophy. I contend that inferentialism's foundations in Hegelian logic, phenomenology, and pragmatism provide critical resources for understanding the epistemic break with immediacy that underlies emancipatory forms of recognition, as well as for clarifying the logical structures of critique and normative transformation.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
